What is Quantum Computing?
- Definition of: quantum computing -
A future technology for designing computers based on quantum mechanics, the science of atomic structure and function. It uses the "qubit," or quantum bit, which can hold an infinite number of values.
Quantum computing will help to shape the next generation of technologies. From physics to artificial intelligence it will help us to create new materials, new medicines, and new ways of searching for data. It will help to create new super computers capable of simulating complex quantum states and super accurate models of the universe. This new form of computer could literally change the way that we live our lives. The way that quantum computing will do this is by taking advantage of 2 unique quantum properties, Superposition & Entanglement and it will help us to overcome the problems that we are approaching with Moore's Law.
Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist and professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
